Measuring the Influence of Cervical Epidural Steroids on Current Perception Threshold Measures Using a Neurometer®CPT/C - A Case Report

چکیده

We investigated cervical epidural steroid injection effects on Current Perception Threshold (CPT) measures in a patient with neuropathic pain using the Neurometer® CPT/C device (Neurotron, Inc Baltimore MD, USA). CPT measures pre injection revealed a significant hypoesthesia in Aδ and C fibers with normal Aβ fiber function. CPT testing 24 hours after a cervical epidural injection at the C7-T1 interspace using methylprednisolone and lignocaine revealed normal measures indicating a reversal of sensory nerve dysfunction. These findings corresponded with a 100% reduction in the patient’s neuropathic symptoms.

Re: nerve conduction studies (NCS) and current perception thresholds (CPT) in workers assessed for hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS).

The paper on nerve conduction studies (NCS) and current perception thresholds (CPT) in workers assessed for hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) by Lander et al. [1] while informative contained several oversights about the CPT neurophysiological test that would bias any reader's interpretation of the findings. The standardized automated double-blind CPT evaluation provides a painless objective ne...

The Measurement of the Sensory Recovery Period in Zygoma and Blow-Out Fractures with Neurometer Current Perception Threshold

BACKGROUND Facial hypoesthesia is one of the most troublesome complaints in the management of facial bone fractures. However, there is a lack of literature on facial sensory recovery after facial trauma. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the facial sensory recovery period for facial bone fractures using Neurometer. METHODS Sixty-three patients who underwent open reduction of zygomatic...

The current perception thresholds in normal pregnancy.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate a quantitative analysis of the nociceptive threshold, using the current perception threshold (CPT), in women with normal pregnancies and to assess the relationship between nociceptive thresholds and ovarian sex steroids. The subjects consisted of 10 women with singleton pregnancies and 14 age-matched healthy female volunteers. The CPTs (5,250, and 2,000...

Current perception threshold increases during pregnancy but does not change across menstrual cycle.

It is well known that pregnancy reduces anesthetic requirements in response to various noxious stimuli. However, there have been no detailed reports concerning functional changes in nerve fibers during pregnancy. Using a Neurometer, a recently available commercial quantitative sensory monitor, we measured current perception threshold (CPT) values for three frequencies corresponding to the stimu...

Adhesiolysis and targeted steroid/local anesthetics injection during epiduroscopy improves pain and sensory nerve dysfunction in patients with chronic sciatica

Purpose. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of adhesiolysis followed by the injection of steroid and local anesthetic during epiduroscopy on sensory nerve function, pain and functional disability in patients with chronic sciatica. Methods. Epidural adhesiolysis using epiduroscopy followed by the injection of steroid and local anesthetic were scheduled in 19 patients with chronic s...
